How do I keep my foundation from creasing?
This is one of my most asked questions as a makeup artist, and really there are many variables that cause foundation setting into your pores. First let me be really honest.
“If there is a crease it’s going to crease”
But to whoever asks me this question I ask them this...
1. How much makeup are you wearing?
If you apply multiple layers of full coverage products they’re going to ball up, get cakey, settle into smile lines and creases around your eyes making it look worse. The more makeup you put on, the more you have to maintain and worry about creasing. The less you put on, the lower the maintenance. It’s also better for your skin and gives you more time to enjoy life.
2. How much water are you drinking?
To keep your skin healthy, you should be drinking at least 48 ounces (six glasses) of water a day. I didn’t start to do this until the past year and I have seen a big difference in my skin, but this is not all…
3. What serums and lotions are you applying morning and night to your skin?
Above all, avoid dehydrated skin.
When looking for a skin product I encourage you to find a balance between gentleness and product effectiveness. Hydrating serums, facial oils and balms are booster products that can help elevate your go-to moisturizer. You may also want to add in an eye cream. Skincare products are very personal and you’ll have some trial and error, just listen to your skin and your esthetician.
Primers
I usually don’t use primers on my clients because good skin prep is the best primer! However, primers are nice to have on hand because they help the makeup stay in place, fill in the areas of uneven texture such as fine lines and wrinkles and help to even out discoloration and acne scarring.
Just make sure that the primer you choose will play well with your foundation. We all know that oil and water don’t mix but you will be 100% sure of its ingredients if you test a small amount of tester primer and your chosen foundation on your hand.
Cosmetics shouldn’t be complicated but fun! And you should have a makeup bag that matches your needs, remember makeup can only look as good as the skin that’s underneath it.
