Beauty tips for the Winter months

I want to give you a few tips on how you can foolproof your winter makeup look❄

In this blog post I cover the top five things I can’t be without in the cold season❄

I’m not sure how many times I’ve said that skincare is #1 but seriously it is! As a makeup artist I don’t rely on primers but instead I rely on the skincare to be the primer. If your skin is oily and isn’t hydrated it will produce more oil, on dry skin it can dry up causing your makeup to crack. For this reason I always tell my clients to invest in their skincare if you want your makeup not only to look beautiful but also to last!

#1 Have a humidifier

You may think this has nothing to do with makeup and that’s true but it has to do a lot with your skin and dry flaky skin is commonly associated with those temperatures in winter. Humidifiers help to restore humidity inside your house helping to retain that hydration for your skin. Sleep with a humidifier nearby if you can 😊

#2 Moisturizer

Proper moisture is a big part for makeup application, while hydration means adding water to your skin, moisture means locking water in. If you really have very dry skin sometimes a drop of an essential facial oil such as rosehip seed oil over the moisturizer helps to lock moisture in even more, creating a great base for makeup.

#3 Waterproof mascara

What kind of makeup do you really need if you are wearing scarves and hats?! A waterproof mascara of course, it literally will not transfer or smudge when you go from the outside cold to the inside heat of any place. Mascara is my favorite because it opens up my eyes and gives life to my face.

#4 DIY Lip exfoliator and lip balm

Exfoliation of your lips and your face is very important to get rid of dead cells. You can easily make an effective lip scrub by mixing up brown sugar, coconut oil and honey (recipe here). Lips are a particular delicate area so be consistent by exfoliating them often and applying balms every day during the cold season.

#5 Finishing spray with hydrating ingredients

Instead of setting your makeup with powder use a humectant finishing spray that attracts and traps moisture in the skin without adding texture or additional coverage. Hold the spray at arm’s length with your eyes closed, spray two times, once it’s dry you’re set to go! You can also do this before and after applying makeup because in winter you can never have too much moisture.

Stay warm and stay beautiful
