How To Apply Red Lipstick
Red is not usually for an everyday but is great to wear for a holiday event, an evening or cocktail look. One thing that is great about wearing a red lipstick is that you won’t need to spend as much time in the eyes.
When wearing makeup, it’s not necessary to emphasize every feature, wearing a red lip is the best example to keep everything else understated, that way it can shine by itself. In my opinion the perfect complement for a red lip is a glowy skin with neutral eyes and soft lashes. I think any woman can wear red, the most important thing is to feel confident in it and wearing the right shade is so helpful! You can find great tips in How to find your best lip color for your skin tone blog.
Let’s talk about lips
I cannot help to say that if you want better results on your makeup you need to take care of what’s under it.
Lips are so sensitive! their protective layer is very thin and vulnerable to the environment. If our lips are dry our natural inclination of licking them makes them even dryer. For this reason, is very important to wear something that will keep them moisturized and protected, preferable a lip balm without flavors and fragrance.
Primer
Prime your lips to cover unevenness or pigmentation. Just use the same brush or sponge you used to apply your foundation or concealer and stipple it on your lip. This is a great way for your lipstick to have more longevity and to be truer to color.
Lining the lips
The reason to do this is to create balance and more definition to the natural edges of the lip. For example, by lining directly on the lip border or just inside it you can make them appear a little fuller, thinner or even less downturned.
When doing a red lip, I always like to match my lip liner with my lipstick or just one shade darker. Never use a lip liner that is completely different color to your lipstick, this a big no! so if you have a nude lipstick color you will need a more flesh tone liner.
Start in the cupid bow and outer corners, try not to go higher than your cupid’s bow natural line. Then, accentuate the lower curve and move toward the outer corners by staying in your line. Lightly fill in your entire lip with it, this will provide a safe base to your red lipstick.
Lipstick
Choose your perfect shade of red and start on the center of your lips and work your way out. I like to use a lip brush because it lays the color easily and gives me more precision.
You can finish with a thin layer of lip gloss after, this is only optional.
Look straight for unevenness, if there is something you need to correct, you can use a little bit of concealer and with a very small brush correct the edges.

Practice makes perfect! And it’s ok to make mistakes, it’s just makeup and there is always makeup remover.
Have an absolutely beautiful Holiday!
