How To Wear Concealer
I like to define concealer as a more concentrated and thicker foundation. It has more pigment and it’s used to conceal blemishes, dark spots and redness. They come in smaller sizes because a small amount should go a long way. You can use liquid and cream formula based on your skin or results you are looking for. Liquid formulas are much more hydrating! Cream formulas usually have a heavier coverage, just blend it well before you powder your skin.
Concealer does not have to be lighter than your skin tone, it can perfectly cover discoloration if you are using a concealer that’s the same tone of your skin and it can be applied before or after your foundation.
On ivory/beige skin, concealer with yellow undertones is the best choice.
On bronze/ebony skin, concealer with orange undertones or warm browns usually covers best.
If instead the concealer is lighter than your foundation it is best to apply it before the foundation.
If your concealer starts to oxidize or turns green or gray it means that you are using a color that is much lighter than your skin tone and you need to find a concealer with a darker pigment.
If you have seen in social media all the creative ways on how to apply concealer you will probably get overwhelmed, but there is not really one method, it depends on the needs of each person. One way and the most natural way of applying concealer is by applying it (it’s needed) on the inside and outside corner of the eye. After taping with your finger or small fluffy brush it gives the illusion of lifting the eye. After that, whatever product is left on the brush just gently brush it across the under eye. You can also conceal the redness around your nose.
I have seen countless times how some people draw a layer of thick concealer on their under eye. For me it’s a big no! especially if you have puffy eyes. In makeup you never want to draw attention to the areas that you are not so glad with, so be careful.
Your concealer is your best friend but…
Every time I apply concealer to my clients, I like to pamper the delicate skin around their eyes with gel eye patches that contain collagen or hyaluronic acid, also luxurious eye creams, this helps with fatigued skin in the eye area by giving it a burst of hydration. But even though I do this, I always remind them to make sleep a priority before their event and drink enough water before they see me. Concealers can give you great coverage because of the pigmented load but no amount of under eye concealer will cover up how tired you are. You really can help make it work for you.
