Glow and Goals ✓

Happy January ⋆⁺₊❅. ! Every season really has its best way to serve you, winter brings us a new year which always gives us motivation to better our habits and be more intentional on our goals. For example, this year I definitely would like to adapt to more healthy habits, being more mindful about what I eat, physically keep building my strength and endurance and take more time to read. The cold temperatures are just the perfect excuse to be inside more, relax and do the inner work evaluating our strengths, weaknesses and most importantly our goals 💫⚡💡 

Instead of resolutions I like to call them sweet intentions so think of the things that you can incorporate into your life but don’t overwhelm yourself because you’ll never do it. Just give yourself some grace and start with small changes. Whether you’re seeking more balance or want to feel good, there are so many ways that can help you achieve it. 

Let’s start with your skin, how is your skin feeling this winter? Is it feeling hydrated or tight? does it look radiant and clear? does it reflect how you are feeling inside?  How are those new products working for you? 

This is a good time to go back to the products that really work and give your skin a reset. Something like a gentle cleanser at night, or a vitamin C serum for the morning with a sunscreen preferably tinted if you have hyperpigmentation. A thicker moisturizer is so beneficial for many people including myself, especially for the winter months. 

Winter is the time where all your skin might look very dry so exfoliate your skin with a sugar scrub, you can purchase it or make it homemade with brown sugar, honey and the juice of a half orange, it’s also the best remedy if you have dry elbows or knees which are very common in winter. I personally really love it! It makes my skin feel amazing and I do it as my second body cleanser. I use a body wash first then a scrub. To keep my body hydrated after the shower I use body lotion and mix it with body oil or body butter leaving me a glow ✧˖°. 😊 You can also gently exfoliate your lips, applying lip balm after. This is a great way to nourish all your skin. 

Having control of our lifestyle can bring amazing results and this work the same when it comes to our food or diet. Two months ago, I downloaded #myfitnesspal, an application to start tracking my food. I didn’t seriously start until this month but by learning my daily calorie intake I have learned a better way to eat. I also purchased The Big Breakfast Diet book by Daniela Jakubowicz MD. Takin these two actions are teaching me how to feed my body in a more efficient way without overeating.  Take inventory of what’s going on in your routine to make the necessary changes. 

Also, whatever you can do to increase movement will make you feel much better. After being 2 years away from a gym I decided to join a women’s only gym last September and that has helped me change my body composition in ways that I hadn't imagined. I shifted my focus to weightlifting and resistance training and it has been transformative in helping me build muscle - No, I’m not bulky and not planning to be 😂 -. But I can say that weightlifting has enhanced my strength and overall energy and resilience. If you are not interested in joining a gym, there are other ways to get active, even though I was not attending a gym for quite a while I would still try to do a workout from home or go for a walk. On winter days I would walk in the mall for about 1 hour which equals 3 miles, it was such a mood booster and the best way to continue my day. If you are not eager to go outside, maybe you could get a walking pad or just take more trips during your workday, or park further away to add steps to your commute. Maybe you already have joined a good fitness class or found a good class or routine that you can do from home but anything that can increase your movement is not only good for your physical but for your mental health, so get creative! 

Small changes bring such a difference but try to find that balance of fun things and also productive things, this is definitely the best way to go through winter, if you can prioritize that and focus on your goals and aspirations being excited on the things that you are about to accomplish that will always keep you going. 

So always take care of your skin and only feed your mind with positive thoughts. This will always give you glow and move you closer to your goals ⭐
