A Winter Friendly Blush
Happy 2022 and welcome to winter! I love makeup even in this season! If I’m going out, cheeks, brows, lashes and lips get my attention.
Did I say cheeks? Well, I honestly do love blushes, and as a MUA one of my favorites are the powder blushes from MAC. The only problem is that for those of us with dry combination and dehydrated skin, powders don’t really work.
Lucky for us there is always a nice way to adjust our makeup more specifically our powder blush! I’ve done testing to find answers about what mixture could work for and not against our cheeks in this harsh winter.
I’ve mixed the blush with 4 different solvents: plain water, water based facial cream, facial oil and a moisturizer.
These are the results:
Blush + Water
The water evaporated fast and the result is just a dry powder. I noticed that the blush barely sits on my cheeks. Not a good effect!
Blush + Water based facial cream
This mixture feels fresh on the skin and produces a matte but smooth result. Blush is more visible than with just plain water.
Blush + Facial Oil
Out of all of the mixtures the oil enriches the color the most but all you need is a minimal amount for your cheeks. I used Squalene oil, a lightweight facial oil which applies very easy. It’s not greasy and instead offers moisture without the added heaviness that other oils can create.
Safe for most skin types.
Blush + Moisturizer
My favorite! Similar to a mousse consistency. You can definately see the blush just a bit lighter than with oil. Moisturizer delivers more hydration due to its composition of oil and water. This mixture does give you a very natural glow.
There are different ways you can apply your blush. You can use a brush, a sponge or your fingers. I like to use my fingers because the warmth of your fingers help the blush melt into your skin.
Start with one dot and then another one and slightly blend it to the highest point of the apples of your cheeks. Blend smoothly, you can use a damp sponge at the end to blend out harsh edges.
A little goes a long way!
