Makeup Bag Essentials

A professional makeup kit requires cleanliness, organization and a variety of great tools and products, so building one has taught me some helpful tips on what are the key items that I should carry in my personal makeup bag.  It’s always a good idea to declutter a disorganized and sometimes out of date personal makeup bag, remember more than two years old it has to go, except mascara and foundation which you need to discard sooner!  Here’s my helpful tips and list of essentials.

If you have the correct tool, it will make the job easier and it will give you the control you need to do your makeup properly.

Eyelash Curler. Curling your lashes makes you look younger so use them.

Sponges. The egg-shaped sponge gives you an airbrushed result.

Tweezers. To remove any visible hair.

Brushes. For complexion and eyes.

Foundation.

Blotting Paper. They will remove all the shine and refresh your makeup.

Concealer for spot concealing.

Eyeshadows. Three to five neutral shades. You’ll be amazed by how much you can achieve with three to five shades.

Eye pencil or Eyeliner.

Waterproof Mascara.

Blush (cream or powder).

Brow Pencil.

Brow Gel (a personal essential) getting those eyebrows right changes your entire look!

Lipbalm and Lipstick.

Sunscreen. Not makeup but crucial!

Simplify the products you use!

Some SPF already comes with the moisturizer included, personally I prefer to use a moisturizer and a separate sunscreen but it depends how much time I have so I like to have the option of moisturizer with SPF.  Better than applying no SPF at all!

Many brands are creating multiuse makeup. You can now find creamy formulas for blush that can be used as a lipstick and eyeshadow, also foundation sticks that not only work as a foundation but concealer and contour. Multipurpose makeup products are incredibly handy when you are in a hurry, on vacation, or for a quick freshen up.

Find concentrated products (foundation and lipstick) that gives you the coverage you want in one application, the more concentrated the product the less required.

Last but definitely the most important essential!

The cleaner the tool the better the application. It’s inevitably to get cosmetic debris in our personal makeup bag. Product buildup can affect the shape of the brushes and its ability to blend and lay down pigments. Avoid this by cleaning your tools. They are an easy breeding ground for bacteria so your personal brushes NEED a good cleaning at least every other week. Don’t forget to clean the inside and outside of your makeup bag, making sure it's thoroughly dry before zipping it back up. <3
